Xiaohui received her PhD in International Economics from the University of Birmingham in 2000. She has taught a variety of courses in Strategic Management, International Business and International Management in both China and the UK. Her research interests include the determinants and impact of inward and outward foreign direct investment as well as the linkage between FDI, trade and economic growth. She is currently conducting two projects funded by the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust. One is on the role of returning Chinese entrepreneurs in technology transfer, and the other is on national culture and corporate strategies.

Her publications appear in various journals including Research Policy Management International Review, International Review of Applied Economics, Applied Economics and International Business Review. Her joint paper The trade development path and export spillovers in China: a missing link? received the best competitive paper award at the 32nd annual conference of the Academy of International Business (UK), 2005.
