Dr Jinghai Zheng received his doctoral degree from University of Gothenburg in 1997. He is now Senior Research Fellow at the Department of International Economics, Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, Norway and Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, Gothenburg University Sweden. His main field of research is economic growth and applied productivity analysis on China.

Since 2000, Dr Zheng has taken up various visiting positions at different universities, including Cambridge University, London School of Economics, Peking University and Tsinghua University. He currently holds a position as Guest Research Fellow at the Center for China Studies, Tsinghua University. He is also a visiting professor at the School of Economics, Zhejiang University in China, where he teaches a Ph.D course in productivity, economic growth and innovation.

Dr Zheng is the President-elect of the Chinese Economic Association (UK) and the President-elect of the newly established Chinese Economic Association (Europe), i.e., CEA (Europe). He is the guest-editor of the special issue on Chinese productivity for the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies (JCEBS) for 2008 and 2009, and the organizer of the international workshop on Chinese productivity for 2007 and 2008. Dr Zheng is also the organizer of the forthcoming Inaugural CEA (Europe) and 20th CEA (UK) Annual Conference, 23-24 July, Dublin.

Dr Zheng has published extensively in internationally recognized journals such as World Development, Journal of Comparative Economics, Economics of Planning, and Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies. His major contributions to the economic literature include applications of the productivity analysis framework to Chinese enterprise data and discussions on issues concerning the sustainability of China's economic growth. He is currently focusing on the study of the knowledge production function and possible applications of the methodology to Norwegian and Chinese data.
